Legendborn Wiki

Bloodcrafters binding magic to their bloodlines permanently. [1]

The practitioners that used this are the Legendborn and Vera’s daughters.

Description[]

Magic is an invisible energy all around us, everywhere in the world, that only some people know about. It is called different things by different groups: magic, aether, spirit, root. There is no single school of thought about magic. Some think it's an element, others think it's a natural resource. The only universal truth about magic is who, or what, can access it and how. The dead have the most access, and supernatural creatures have the next closest connection. Meanwhile, the living must borrow, bargain for, or steal the ability to access and use this energy.[2]

Bloodcrafters steal their root. Rootcrafters "borrow root because keeping it in their bodies creates an imbalance of energy." They call "Boodcraft a curse because power taken and not returned incurs a debt, and the universe and the dead will always come to collect, one way or another. The Order has tied power to their bloodlines for hundreds of years." The size of their debt is staggering. "The only currency that Bloodcraft accepts is suffering and death." [3]

Legebdborn and the corresponding Abatement that is the universe correcting for that theft, but Bloodcrafters aren't required to steal power. Nothing is stopping a Bloodcrafter from making a permanent bargain for their power instead. [4]

Legendborn[]

Casting[]

Spell of Eternity, a powerful casting done by Merlin to magnify the remaining knights' abilities and bind their spirits to their bloodline so that their heirs could forever stand against the darkness. This would allow the Table to live on in a form of immortality. When the knights' Scions are Awakened, the knights' spirit lives again.

When a Scion chooses a Squire, they take the warrior’s oath and are bonded to be their battle partner and will share their bloodline's power.

Power[]

Aether is mutable ambient element manipulated by will, but that manipulation is somewhat defined by the user. Scions and Squires are limited in how they can wield aether. They are bound to how their Line's knight used it. They can cast armor — not the exact sixth-century variety, no plates back then — but it most be a variation that works with their knights gifts. [5]

Curse[]

Legendborn and the corresponding Abatement that is the universe correcting for that theft.

Vera's Daughters[]

Casting[]

Vera and the Shadow King made a bargain, to protect herself and her descendants. The Shadow King binding his magic to her bloodlines.

Power[]

Her "spell was designed, first and foremost, to help her descendants sense nearby aether users who might hunt them, Merlins in particular."[6] Her line has enhanced senses, the Sight to see magic and Shadowborn, the ability to break mesmers, and the ability to access root in self-defense.

Curse[]

The cost of the bargain is that the power can only live in one daughter at a time. Each mother's final act is to push these abilities on to her daughter.
